Large format laser cutting: sheet up to 13 meters
Beyond conventional limits
Most laser cutting machines on the market work with standard sheet formats: 3,000 x 1,500 mm or at most 6,000 x 2,000 mm. But certain industrial sectors need much larger parts: naval structures, railway components, energy panels, architectural facades, or industrial machinery frames.
At Cortalia, we have invested in large-format laser cutting capability that sets us apart in the Spanish market: our main machine reaches 13 meters x 3.5 meters of working area, with 30 kW power and a 5-axis head.
Technical specifications
Working area: 13,000 x 3,500 mm, one of the largest in Spain. Laser power: 30 kW fiber, enabling cutting of carbon steel up to 40 mm and stainless steel up to 30 mm at industrial speeds.
5-axis head: enables angled cuts, bevels, chamfers, and three-dimensional geometries without repositioning the part. This is critical for weld preparation, angled butt joints, and parts with complex geometries.
The automatic table change system allows loading the next sheet while the current one is being cut, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Advantages of 30 kW laser cutting
30 kW power marks a qualitative leap over conventional 6-12 kW systems. In 20 mm steel, a 30 kW laser cuts 3 to 5 times faster than a 10 kW unit. This translates directly into lower per-piece cost and shorter delivery times.
At medium thicknesses (6-15 mm), cutting speed is exceptional: over 5 meters per minute in 10 mm steel. For thin gauges (1-3 mm), speeds exceed 20 meters per minute.
Cut quality with 30 kW is excellent. The higher energy input allows a cleaner cut with less burr, especially at medium thicknesses where lower-power equipment may leave an irregular finish.
Tube laser cutting: up to 12 meters
We complement sheet cutting with specialized tube laser cutting equipment. Our tube machine processes pieces up to 12 meters long and 530 mm in diameter, with a tilting head for beveled cuts.
This capability is especially in demand for metal structure fabrication, industrial furniture, railings, machinery chassis, and energy sector components. Tube laser cutting eliminates manual preparation operations, reducing time and improving repeatability.
Sectors demanding large format
Naval and offshore: hull panels, bulkheads, and deck structures requiring multi-meter parts cut with laser precision.
Railway: bogie frames, wagon sides, and structural components needing certified quality cuts at large dimensions.
Energy: wind turbine components, solar support structures, and parts for thermal and nuclear power plants.
Industrial machinery: frames, beds, and chassis that due to their dimensions require large-format cutting without the need for joints.
Integration with other processes
Cortalia's competitive advantage is not just large-format laser cutting, but its integration with the rest of our in-house manufacturing processes. A part cut on our 13-meter machine can move directly to bending, CNC machining, certified welding, or assembly, all without leaving our facilities.
This integration reduces lead times, eliminates intermediate transport, and ensures the complete traceability required by our EN ISO 9100 aerospace and UNE 73401 nuclear certifications.
